Merum Priorati, located in the town of Porrera, is a pure Priorat winery, which is part of the Pere Ventura Family Wine Estates group.

In 2013, Pere Ventura acquired the Merum Priorati estates and winery and set out to offer wines distinguished by their elegance and high quality, from Priorat. The winery’s philosophy is based on the most absolute respect for the environment, the land, tradition, history and roots. That of Merum Priorati is a constant struggle to overcome the extreme conditions of the territory and to obtain wines that are already internationally recognized for their excellence.

The winery has three of its own vineyards, all located in the municipality of Porrera with a total of 123 hectares, of which 25.5 hectares are vineyards. Each estate has its own particularities and produces fresh and elegant, aromatic and vibrant wines, with very good structure and a certain opulence.

The microclimate of the region has characteristics of the Mediterranean climate but also of a continental type and is characterized by the great variation in temperature between day and night. This peculiarity is due to the mountain system of the area, which stops the humid and temperate air of the Mediterranean and calms the cold winds from the north and its rains. This dry and extreme microclimate can vary on each estate depending on its altitude, orientation and relief, it reduces vineyard production and favors a slow and regular ripening of the grapes that contributes to their high aromatic concentration.

The unique slate soils, known in the area as llicorella, with little water retention capacity, greatly influence the style of Merum Priorati wines, providing a very particular minerality, body and character.

The winery is an organic, beautiful space perfectly integrated into the landscape and the town of Porrera. After a warm welcome in the garden and an introduction to the territory under the sundial, a guided tour takes place through different parts of the winery and concludes with a commented tasting of the comprehensive collection of Merum Priorati estate wines, accompanied by a small pairing of select local products.
