Celler Sabaté Franquet is a small family winery in Torroja del Priorat that keeps alive a winemaking tradition passed down from generation to generation. The project still works the great-grandfather’s old vineyards, planted on the characteristic llicorella slate soils and laid out on terraced slopes, a landscape that defines the essence of Priorat wines.

The vineyards, with a limited production, are farmed with respect in order to preserve the family’s winegrowing heritage and obtain top-quality grapes. Old vines, manual work and the terroir give wines that faithfully express the character of Torroja del Priorat.

The wine tourism visit is a very close and personal experience. During the tour you walk through the vineyards to learn about growing vines on slopes, the importance of llicorella and how demanding, yet how privileged, these lands are for the vine.

Next we discover the small family winery, where they explain how the wines are made and aged, always with a handcrafted production that puts quality before quantity.

The experience ends with a guided tasting of their Vi de Vila from Torroja del Priorat, a wine that brings back the style of the most classic Priorats. Visitors also get to taste an exceptional rancio wine aged for more than forty years, a real gem that preserves the whole tradition of the region.
