Celler de l’Encastell is one of the most emblematic winegrowing projects in Porrera, in the heart of the DOQ Priorat. The winery works exclusively with its own vineyards on llicorella slopes, a soil that gives its wines the mineral character and elegance so typical of this prestigious designation of origin.

The vineyards, many of them old Garnatxa and Carinyena vines, are farmed using environmentally friendly practices and with very limited production, always putting the quality of the grapes first. The steep slopes mean that much of the work has to be done by hand, keeping the winegrowing tradition of the Priorat alive.

The wine tourism visit begins by discovering the history of the winery and its bond with the Porrera landscape. We then tour the production facilities, where we learn about the whole winemaking process, from the arrival of the grapes to ageing in oak barrels, always with careful winemaking that seeks to express the personality of each plot to the full.

During the tour we also discover the importance of llicorella, the Mediterranean climate and the large differences in altitude between the vineyards, factors that define the unique character of the wines of Celler de l’Encastell.

The visit ends with a guided tasting of a selection of its wines, an excellent opportunity to appreciate the nuances of wines such as Marge, Roquers de Porrera, Samsó de Porrera or Roquers de Garnatxa, accompanied by explanations from the winery team.
