The Vins i Olis Suñer winery is ideal for a wine tourism getaway. It is located in the village of Ginestar, in the Ribera d’Ebre county, within the DO Tarragona region.

The family has been making olive oil since 1936; later on they took up vine growing and sold their grapes in bulk. It was not until the year 2000 that Manuel Suñer began to bottle his own wine. Today it is his son, Josep Suñer, who runs the winery. The generational change has brought a change in the philosophy of their wines, clearly aimed at a young audience.

Wine tourism at Vins i Olis Suñer offers several options. From the classic tour of the vineyards, the winery visit and a wine tasting, to taking part in the harvest, discovering the winemaking process and tasting their wines and musts at ‘La Sènia’, a farmhouse surrounded by vineyards.

Another option is the Clotxa Workshop, a traditional dish from the Ribera and the Terra Alta. You will learn how to prepare the dish that the local farmers used to make to face their hard days in the fields, and afterwards you will visit the winery and do the tasting.

Finally, the star option at Vins i Olis Suñer: Wine en Kayak, an activity that combines wine tourism with adventure sports and consists of paddling down a stretch of the river Ebre and finishing with a wine tasting at the winery.

The activity, suitable for anyone over 3 years old, starts in Mòra d’Ebre, where, after some advice on navigation and the use of the kayaks, you will start paddling downstream. Once in Ginestar, after a comfortable descent, Josep will be waiting on the riverbank for a tasting of the white wines with an aperitif. Afterwards you go to the winery to visit the facilities and taste the rosé and red wines, as well as some olive oil.

Among the wines tasted in the white wine session, La Pocavergonya stands out, a wine made as a joint project by several wineries in the area: Molí de Rué, Celler Pedrola, Cooperativa de Benissanet and Vins i Olis Suñer itself.
